Leveling the Working Field

            I’ve never faced racism or prejudice for my skin color.   I hadn’t even considered the concept of white privilege until I took Sociology of Criminology with the late, great Professor Lundman at Ohio State University.   Even before the demonstrations began blossoming across the planet however, I was aware of the systematic oppression of people of color in our society.               “I apologize if we get pulled over,” my Black Uber driver stated one late night in Houston as he exited the highway and into my sister’s ritzy neighborhood with a cop car on our tail.               “But you haven’t done anything wrong!   You’re just doing your job!” I protested, buzzed on Texas heat and tequila and turning in the back seat to blinding headlights.        ...
